It's a slightly different question from my previous thread, so: I see these advertised with or without DOT approval, but just what does DOT approval actually constitute for these hoses anyway?
I asked that question at double 02 salvage once because they had both DOT approved and non-DOT approved lines. He said the only difference was that the DOT approved lines had a vinyl layer or jacket covering the outside of the stainless line whereas the non-DOT were just bare braided stainless on the outside.
I bought some of these for my E46 and a set for the E9. So far so good. Nice looking set of DOT approved lines. Been through three Canadian Winters so far and look new.
Hmmm, braided stainless hoses have a reputation for being able to chew through other things, so the braided is a "protective" feature as much as something to be protected from. I doubt the need for the external sheathing, but marketing can do wonders.
