I am in the process of buying an E9 and will post pics when I get the car. I'm not a fan of the OEM wheel, and I see the Petri wheel is probably the coolest, but they're hard to find. If you had to choose another wheel, what would it be? I am thinking Nardi wood wheel. What size is appropriate for this car? 36cm too small? 38 the minimum recommended size?

Thanks.

I think 36 is way too small, 38 and 39 are probably the most common. I had a Nardi and didn't like the sun reflecting in my face from the spokes. I have the CSi sport wheel and love it, not as sexy as a Petri but perfect size for me.

Yes, 36 is little bit too small for e9.
You can consider:
Alpina 4-spoke 38cm (very pleasant wheel), Momo Prototipo 38cm (that type was also mounted originally in Alpina B2 original one signed by Alpina is much more rare than Petri), Italvolanti 37cm
If you prefer wooden wheel then Nardi

I like a smaller wheel because the E9 has no tilt wheel and not a fan of the wheel being so high, so a smaller 350/360mm is perfect for me

anybody have a pic of a black on black nardi in a coupe? i have seen the black spokes with wood wheel.

I’ve never driven an e9 with a 350mm. I’m curious to know if the 350mm to 360mm opinion is based on asthetics or driving feel. I think look a little small but not out of place. I know a guy in Seattle has a 350mm vintage prototipo in his CSL and it looks well used and glorious inside the car.

The “csi sport” wheel which wasn’t CSI specific and is also made by Petri is 425mm in diameter. That is a good inch larger than the 400mm Petri sport wheel which some consider too big. By the time you get down to a 360mm wheel, you are over 2.5 inches under stock.

My car has a 390mm black spoke Nardi. I’m not a huge fan of the polished Nardi, but it does fit well if you interior can compete with the bling of such a wheel.

If you are thin, you can get away with a 400mm+ wheel. If you have some meat on your thighs I think that you will appreciate 380mm or less.

Here is a pic of a 380mm on a 400mm on a 425mm:

At a minimum a 38cm wheel, 40cm+ if you have broad shoulders. I have driven a coupe with a 35cm wheel and it is too small for the car. It feels small and it doesn't offer a GT driving feel. Also the Nardi wheels don't look right to me. My coupe had a Nardi when I bought it and I disliked it. Besides looking like an aftermarket wheel, the gloss finish is slippery and doesn't lend itself to spirited driving. The Alpina wheel does look nice in a coupe. The sport wheel that Chris has in his Malaga coupe looks great and fits his car very well.

I wonder what the ratio of steering wheels to e9’s is on this board? Does anyone have only one wheel? If you do only have one, do you lust after another? :D

i have a 380mm petri that is not in the car (and it is not for sale;-))
the petri is sublime, but is well preserved laying on the shelf
i am enjoying a period correct 368mm steering wheel
i can not post pictures, so sad

Mine came with a wood 350 mm wheel. Felt all wrong to me. I have a 380mm Italvolante with a couple of center pad options and a 400 mm Petri. I like the looks of the Petri best and the feel of the Italvolante (Nice thick leather). I'd like a 420 mm Bus wheel too, as steering wheels are so quick to swap out.

Petri best look.
Momo/Alpina best feel.
Italvolanti (never had one) look like the same thick as Momo, so i assume is probably same feeling.
