After mine failed unexpectedly, I had it rebuilt locally with more amps for about $100.
I installed the rebuilt and then had the one given to me rebuilt and it stays in the trunk on long trips.
Sort of "pay it forward" if another E9 brother's alternator dies.
Must confess to using one as an "upgrade" on my '71 2002. No more bushing changes (drill out 8mm pivot bracket to 10mm). Hasn't vibrated itself to death.
Did machine some bronze bushings for the tii long ago and they were a failure, slotting themselves in about a year. Back to urethane.
Stan when was the rebuild, recent? At some point with 4 old Bimmers, I may need a rebuild and there is nobody left down here in Ma. Live Free and Rebuild should be the motto on the NH license plate.
