Before I go ahead and push the button on some new 16's I have a question as to what's best....

On a standard '72 CS with original 14's is it best to lower (using Carl Nelson spring set) or just move to 16's (original shocks are still fine.
I don't want to get into rolling fenders by doing both? Just looking for best look and ride.

Thoughts as I'm a newbie. Cheers

Personally, I think an inch or two of drop is nice, regardless of wheels/tires. Given the inconsistency of coupe dimensions due to hand assembly, you won't know if fender trimming is needed until you try the tire/wheel combo you plan to install.

Hope you'll pull the trigger on your purchase of the coupe. Completely agree with Tony on the coupe stance. Don't talk to Carl about the 16 inch staggered Alpinas as he has a complete disdain for this setup. I'm sorry Carl but I went against your advice and got a newly refurbished set 4 year ago simply because they look so right on the CS coupe. The Alpinas have not been mounted on my coupe yet, waiting for the right time I guess, probably after I repaint my car, whenever that may be. Presently, I have the Carl Nelson B&G lowering springs with the Bilstein HD shocks running on 15" OZ Alpina replicas with 206/60/15 tires. Please post plenty of pics after you've acquired your dream car.

thanks guys.

I am so unsure. I can get some nice 14" Alpina rims and the Carl Nelson lowering kit for about the same price as good 16's....As I'm in NZ not much choice here so need to make the call...big wheels look good but 14" with lowering might also look quite nice.

Bert - your 15's look good!

take a look at the picture of my car in the 3.0 cs gallery, under daicos35, 16*8 rear 16*7 front, open lug ,alpina, slightly lowered. No need to roll fenders, imho, best wheel set up for the e9

Cheers
