What's the chance I fried the ECU before my first test run?

So I guess the Miller MAF is the best bet to try to clean that part out of a CSi engine bay. I'd like to be able to hide that part completely inside a stock CSi air box. At least for everyday driving. It seems like Miller likely must be using some commercially available MAF, that one could pick up from a salvage yard for a few bucks. The question is, which one and what do they do to convert/ or adapt the signal to the 4 wires on the 1.3 AFM. Has anyone here installed their kit yet?

They use a standard MAF, yes, but they also include a correct tune to change the AFM response table in the ECU to match their new MAF. They also require an additional power wire since the MAF requires it where the AFM does not. The tune is where the major R&D investment lies.

Thanks. Have you installed their kit or do you know anyone who has?...

Amusingly enough, I have one of their 1st gen kits (machined aluminum MAF housing, very slick) sitting on a shelf waiting to be installed. It has been waiting for ~6 years at this point.

Others on Bimmerforums have had excellent experiences with the kits, as well as their WAR tune system.

miller maf

i have both the miller maf and war chip installed on my coupe - my feedback:
1. both perform well, maf smoother idle than barndoor, chip may add 5-10hp.
2. expensive. for approx the same money you can now get the megasquirt kit that plugs directly in the 1.3 wiring harness. DO THIS.
3. no real-time data - have to tune on dyno.
4. tune file data pts bear no resemblance to anything in the physical world. ie you can change the air/fuel ratio numbers, but instead of giving you the actual number to change like going from 13.4 to 13.0, you change some random value from 1092 to ????.

the megasquirt system is better in every way, there is really no reason to choose the miller stuff.

having said all that, ive ordered my megasuirt stuff, so my miller maf and chip will be up for sale soon: reasonably priced, and really great stuff! :-o
