What's this bracket for?

Hi Everyone,

I was visiting my car in the shop on Friday and noticed a bracket on the new inner fender between the coil and the windshield washer tank. It's on the left edge of the picture about half way up. I don't remember anything there before, but I don't seem to have a good picture of that area pre restoration. Should it be there? The car is a '70 2800CS. Thanks.

Looks like an air cleaner box mount for an injected engine, what kind of engine do you have?
 
I have a carb engine. I don't think the bracket should be there. That's how the fender came from BMW. I wish I had noticed it before it was painted and the engine installed.
 
It comes on factory replacement fenders. It is spot welded on. You are correct in that it only comes on fuel injected e9's. The bracket is spot welded on, and numerous members are looking for the bracket. If desired, you can drill out the spot welds and touch up the area.
