maybe? now that you mention it I think I remember seeing one of these on the Delorian.

It's meant to have 2 x electrical spade connectors (one was snapped of) on the underside is what appears to be a ceramic resistor

No idea what it is but Stan can make a run of a hundred new ones so we can all have one.

It is obviously electrical, dissipates heat so it is either resistive or a solid state device, VDO label suggests it is related to the instruments maybe? If both spades are insulated the device is used in series, as opposed of going in parallel to ground.

Did the car have an alarm system?

resistor

for your tach either directly or to the ecu. VDO is the clue. Early injection systems had trouble with a coil signal. Sometimes they worked, sometimes not.

Same issue sometimes for megasquirt and wasted spark depending upon set up.

But my wife's BMW has a funky floor light behind the glove box. Looks like that but opens like a matchbox; cheesiest thing you ever saw- fire hazard if you ask me. I recently had to change the FPS ( blower resistor) .

Mmm? Getting interesting it is

Here's a picture of the underside

Car was an auto if that's any help?

The white ceramic resistor is 18 ohm

???

Gold Star for Arde! mystery solved, since the car is now manual, I'll put it in the bin

Thank you all

Steve

Gold Star? How about a case of Speight's from Dunedin? All I have left is their Southern Man T-shirt, and that shirt is getting old.

BIN!!! Oh how I hate it when an obviously useless item from ancient history disappears forever.....Yea, how many folks put an automatic back in and of course they'd be looking for that exact piece.

But it would probably lay around for years before that happened. I've got a garage full of stuff that's ancient but unusable

<sigh>

OK, I wont bin it, I do have a pile of "Bits" off the car, so I'll put it there :)
Some of you wont forgive me, but about two months ago I "binned" the Zeniths and manifold because I dident think anyone would want them, dumb in hindsight I guess?

And Arde, if you were here in NZ, I would by you a Speights :)
