Its been years since these parts were broken down, cleaned and put into storage.
Basically I want to know what parts I am missing in order to rebuild/replace bearings in the trailing arms.

I am still to buy the inner & outer bearings. I believe they now come with seals, so (4 & 5) and (8 & 9) don't need to be purchased separately?
I will need the shims and spacer (6 & 7).
What im unsure about is part #10, its discontinued. Can anyone help with this?

may be of help

Hi,

my post may be of help to you

http://www.e9coupe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18521

While it does not list the parts needed, it shows some seperated parts and some build up sequence.

If you buy the bearings as a set through BMW, I think you get the seals 4&9 anyway.

I reused 6&7. I did not find advise anywhere to replace them.
Basically they are there to ensure that when tigheting the big nut, that you don't displace the inner bearing cages (races) towards each other with the compression force that the large nut creates. So as long as you drive the new bearings in deep enough, they will rest in their original position and have distance between them that is matching the previous bearing set.
There will be just a very slight gap, smaller then 0,1mm I guess, between the sleeve and the bearing that allows for some movement.

Part 10 is a dust cap. Its a seperate part, yes you need it. There is also a seperate dust cap on the inner flange (part 3) but it is not indicated on your drawing as a seperate part. it is drawn however 'on it'. My post #15 actually shows you the inner flange (part3 ) with the (non numbered) dust cap reinstalled after plating, and the matching sealing.

The 6th pic in post 21 also shows you the diff flange, it uses same construction. it has also its own dust cap, here besides it.

as well a picture showing most components, but not all. missing e.g. the bearings itself, but also the dust cap from the flagne with the wheel bolts. On the inner flange it is installed.

My advise is to gather all components that you want yellow chrome passivated and process them in one go. Don't forget the handbrake parts, there are quite a number of parts to be coated as well.

Hope it helps.
Erik.

Hi Eric,

Thanks for that link, very helpful.

Now I need to try and source the dustcap for #3 and part #10.

Appreciated.
