Can you tell me where prices are today on the E9, particularly at the high end of the market? I'd like to know what I could expect to pay for one of the very best examples of a CSi. I'm talking about a concours car -- detailed undercarriage, engine bay, suspension, oustanding paint, etc.

Thanks in advance to all who can help.

Depends on you country

In the UK the last one that I know about, which had loads of known history provanence etc went for 27,000 pounds

I'd say at minimum between $25 and $35k, depending on its history and whether its been restored.....

You may want to check wth Murray to see what he thinks of the current maket for concours level cars. Recent examples might be Sav's car (listed on the board) which listed at $30K on one hand, or what it might take to pry paul Cain's car loose at the other end of the spectrum....

The February 2007 issue of Collector Car Market Review has a market snapshot of the BMW 2800CS-3.0CS, '69-'75. A #1 example is listed at $25,000 to $30,000. I think a concours quality CSi should easily top $30,000.

Really nice e-9's here in SoCal

It seems to me whenever a really nice one is sold here locally for under 25K--I have come to think it's a real bargain--let me cite one example--a
long story follows.

About three years ago I was referred to a very nice original rust free 2800 CS with 50k miles that come from a small private collection to a man in Phoenix--who had some financial needs and I purchased it from him--he delivered same to my door here in SoCal. We took it through a rigorous concours prepping beneath, within and without--saw to it all fluids were fresh and all mecjanicals as they should be. It drove extremely "fresh" when complete--original white paint paint--blue leather--4 speed--sunroof--A/C--was sitting on new 15" OZ's with fresh Michelins and had the correct snarl unique to the early 2800 CS's.

It was offered to a local man who had been referred to me for $27.5--I had offered him a choice between it and a similarly nice 3.0CS. He bought the 2800 CS and kept it for 2 years--he became extremely successful in a business he was building and made a small mistake of loaning it to his secretary to run an errand--and suffered some very minor damage which was correctly repaired--but no longer a virgin. He placed it with a friend who is in the car biz for sale asking $31K--no sale--finally went to the dealer auction where a Chevrolet dealer bought it for $23.5--he asked my opinion as to his purchase--I said you stole it--he has many Chevvies and Corvettes but the BMW is now his favorite to drive. He has corrected any and all small departures from stock and it now wears the original 14" rims he wanted from my BLUMAX--it is a jewel of an original car--I don't think he would offer it for sale but if he should--IMHO it is a $30-32.5K example now and will appreciate due to its originality.

May sound high to many--but just ask anyone in this area who is doing a complete/correct restoration what they are spending to bring their e-9 back to life!!

LenS,

I'm putting my driver up for sale, what was the price range for #2 and #3 regular 3.0 CS? Thanks much.
