I'm trying to figure out what happened to my brake lights. I've check the fuse, it's fine and all the other lights are working great. I'm thinking that it could be my brake light switch.

A few questions:

Where is the brake light switch?
Is it easy to get to and replace?
Is it the same switch as the one on a '72 2002 (I might rob one from my '02 to test it)
Could it be something else?

Thanks in advance for answers and insight.

Just follow the brake pedal arm upwards and you should feel/see it. There is a small piston on the switch directly behind the pedal arm.

It's easy enough to jumper the switch, and check whether the lights come on. Maybe it is the switch, though they tned to be pretty reliable.

On the other hand, the light sockets at the rear are not so reliable. It's possible that both of your's aren't making contact with the bulbs. I'd spend some time with a multimeter before concluding that the switch is bad.

Thanks everyone for your replies.

My weekend got away from me and didn't have time to play around with it. I'm on a plane tomorrow, I'll start checking it when I get home.
