The shop rebuilding my 265 says that one of the shift forks appears bent. Are parts available - and if so where can I get the part numbers from and where can I order from?

This is frustrating to say the least.

Cheers
James

Hi James,

The part numbers are online. You should be able to order the parts from any BMW dealer. If you google the parts, you'll get hits on a few BMW dealers with an online presence, such as BMW of South Atlanta.

Dumb question: That link is for a 1982 E24 - did it come with the 265 with the mechanical speedo?

Thanks
James

Most bearing and seals, but not all, are standard and can be bought from your local bearing supply

If having trouble getting parts, google Jim Blanton Transmissions. He is the absolute best guy in the country on Getrag trannies

Yeah. A 1982 will have a build year of 81/82. The e24 was based on the e12 platform through Q3 1982. It's about the equivalent of the 530i reference in Carl Nelson's write up. Furthermore, there is documentation on the web that states that one can swap over 4spd mechanical Speedo parts to a late model getrag 5 speed. I don't think it has been validated on this forum yet. If you search for my username and getrag speeeo, you will find the link with the reference.

The speedo drive part numbers are the same for all models through the 80s, you may need the gear on the output shaft as well. I am surprised any Getrag parts are available other than seals and synchros.
