Gents,

On my recently acquired CSi, the centers of the round knobs that are used to open and close the wing windows are all hagged out and in need of replacement. I assume they pop out with either a screwdriver or upholstery removal tool.

Any ideas where I can source replacements? Thanks to all!

There was a metal repro part I got way back I think from La Jolla Ind. Had to glue it
to keep it in place, it will last forever and can be used for self defense in a pinch.

you could probably get the plastic re-chromed for less!

I thought we concluded that re-chroming plastic is so chemically dangerous that it has been banned in the entire northern hemisphere.

Yes they're not cheap. But it's available (something we all bitch about why trim pieces etc. arent available these days). If you want to complete your interior with a shiny new visible part like this, then this would seem cheap in the future if they are nowhere to be found at any price. I paid $100 for some repro Alpina lug nuts, could be considered crazy (especially if my wife finds out), but they complete the look and if Peter stops sourcing them then I'd be SOL and regret not buying them when I could. Same deal for the repro tool kit box from BMW. My $.02.

That's totally right. There will be a time when this stuff just seems cheap. It's possible that more parts might go back into production, but what are the chances they will and if they do, will they even fit?

...and to answer the original post. If you want take the cap out without any damage you technically should insert a hook type of tool with a blunt 3mm tip from a hole located on the back side of the black window opening knob and push the chrome cap out from between the knob and the wood trim....
