I had a Bavaria years ago with a 3.0. I later rebuilt a 3.3 that never was as sweet at redline. Currentlly I am driving an E36 M3 and an E46 325 wagon. The M3 has a very truck like redline, while the E46 is smoother and happier at redline even though it has a lot less grunt in normal driving. IS the 2.8 smoother than the 3.0? Do cars with 3.5 swaps pull to redline nicely, or is it pointless revving them all the way?

That varies with the cam and carb/fuel setup. The earlier car had a hotter cam, so it made less power down low, but more up top.

The best 6-cyl to rev has to be the S38. The S54 just sounds like a bag of nails in a dryer to me, far too raspy, not throaty enough.

3.5 liter long block from the factory, ported and polished head, oversize alpina exhaust valves, 304 shrick cam, lightened flywheel, triple 45 dcoe weber carbs with 36 mm chokes, alpina intake manifold, stainless strut brace, 1 3/4" headers. Easily revs to 7200 rpm and screams like a banshee. Doesn't much like 1700 rpms though.

I might be a little biased, but the M88 twin cam motor in my 85 M635 is my favorite. My second choice is the twin cam V6 Dino motor. I don't even bother with a radio, just roll down the windows.

The car I have most enjoyed at redline is an Acura GSR (Only took a test drive). The best car I have owned at redline was a VR6 Corrado. (Daily drove one from 1994 till last winter)
