I need to get a new clutch kit, but am unsure which i need. I thought it was simply a case of pre 73 and post 73, but the people at Jaymic have asked me confirm whether it's a type A or B fork? Is there an easy way to tell this?

My cars a 72 csl with a 5 speed dog leg box.

Cheers

Hi

If -looking under your car- you can see the fork outside the clutch housing, it 's a A fork (external)

Thanks for the help.

I've had a look under, but am unfortunately none the wiser. I'm unable to get right under the car, so could only see the bottom of housing from both sides. I'm presuming that the fork (if present) will be on the side of the housing. Does this differ for LHD and RHD cars, or is it always in the same place? Mines RHD, so the exhaust unfortunately blocks me from getting a good view of the side of the housing.

Hey James,

im not too sure seen as the box has been changed from the four speed. best bet is to email the pics to jaymic - I have found them very helpful under the new management.

Will reply to your coolant email in a bit - been snowed lately!

useless b*stard! Cheers.

Am i correct in thinking that the only thing that changes in the clutch kit, depending on the type of fork, is the clutch release bearing? All the other bits are the same?

The release arm is on the left side, stick the camera up there like you did on the other side and you should see it.

Internal slave cylinder.

Hi again,

As seen on your 2nd picture "left 2".you can see your internal clutch slave cylinder and fluid bleed.
According to your first pic , you need items 5 6 and 7.
For info W und Nesch provide excellent repro slave cylinder and less costy.

Cheers Chris, looks like it's another trip back down to my garage...

D-Jetronic, thanks again, but i'm not sure i understand what you mean? I have a problem with my clutch release bearing and have a replacement, but the garage doing the work say its not worth just replacing the bearing due to the amount of hassle, so i'd be better off replacing the whole lot while there at it. Hence the question about which kit i need.

Why do you think i need to replace the slave cylinder?

ha, i see. For a minute there i thought you'd spotted something else wrong with my car!

I have had a bit of trouble getting it into reverse recently, which is a problem i had (with all gears, and getting it stuck in gear) when i first got the car. There was an issue with both the slave and master cylinder. If i remember correctly, both were cracked. At that point they were both replaced and as that was only 4 years ago and i've only done about 2000 miles since, i'm hoping what ever it is, is related to the release bearing. Only time will tell. Thanks again for your help.
