White plastic window gear

I wanted to ask what is being done now to replace the white window gear in the door? When we did our restoration it was suggested that we flip the gear over and reinstall it which gave new life. The rear windows are real slow now, maybe more needing cleaning and oiling. Love to hear your experiences. I did buy 2 Bavaria complete window mechanisms years ago so I could scavenge if need be.

What some have done is upgrade to E28 motors. They are more robust and a little faster.

I am still running the originals, yet have had to replace my driver side rear nylon gear box 3 times because the gear strips. There's a bind somewhere in the travel I need to address.

I've replaced all 4 and free and smooth (and well lubed) movement of the window mechanism is key to getting any kind of longevity. Resistance exposes the inherent weakness of the plastic gear. I sent a broken gear box to a member here a year or so ago in hopes of having better gears made but that appears to have gone dark.

I have an e28? motor in my front driver's window. Twice as fast as the other three. But they get there eventually, so I will just do maintenance on them.

Just to verify - do the rear door e28 motors fit and function as replacements for the rear windows, as well as the fronts? I have a pair of these for winter refurbishment of the front windows on my car, but would like to improve the rears as well.

Thanks for help.

Yes they do. There is a write up in our Tech section by Kurt D that explains this mod when you are replacing the sardine can motors. If replacing later motors they bolt right in.

(OK, why can't I find it!)

HB Chris,

THANKS for that verification. As a 'newbie'to this forum, I'm still trying to get the correct 'search' question before I bother anyone with a stupid question. I'd found the one regarding front windows, but was not sure about the same upgrade working for rears. GLAD to know it can work there too.

I am with you Gary on the thanks part. Nice site with great photos and all.
Thanks again, on the to do list.
