Why do my blower motors keep burning out?

A few years back, I bought a used blower motor to replace the very loud one that was in my car when I bought it. The replacement worked well, but died on me about a month later. I tried again this summer with a nice used replacement motor, and that one also died on me within a few weeks.

What gives here? Am I buying used replacement motors that seem OK but are actually near death, or is there another explanation? I suppose the underlying question is, should I try again or should I just give in to the E9 electrical gods?

Also, can these things be rebuilt?

Thanks.

Heater Blower Motors

You need to get some oil on the bearings. If you haven't used a heater blower for a while, try spinning it by hand (when it is off!). It should spin freely. This is also my test for used motors.

Also, make sure that the electrical spade connectors for the motor are clean and tight.

Andy M: Did your new motor come with fan attached?

Bill - I simply don't remember if it came with the fan. I'm pretty sure it did, but could be wrong. If not, it wasn't hard to change since the whole install was uneventful.

Heater/defroster fan deaths--there was a guy

in Huntington Beach, CA that rebuilt these fan motors--have had a couple done and they have performed as new--smooth and quiet.
As I recall cost was about $75--contact came to me from Jim @ Mesa Performance--long time active independent supplier of new and used BMW parts that I have dealt with for years.
