Hi guys
I am looking for some help and advice please.
I need to purchase a new cylinder head for my 1973 built 3.0 CSI

I have spotted this one for sale.

Does anyone know if this part number will fit :
11129068833

It says it’s for a 525i
I think it’s a European engine part only.
It seems to have a few extra holes and I’m not sure if they are supposed to do anything or not. ( I put an arrow pointing to the holes )

Any advice would be great thanks.

I definitely don’t want to spend good money on it if it’s not correct.
Thanks
Barry

Hi Ian
I have the older style head from a 1980 casting on my 1973 engine
Unfortunately I am getting coolant in my oil sump.
So my problem is either a bad head gasket or a bad cylinder head gasket.
As I am in there changing/ checking the head gasket, maybe now is the time to put a better head on , the type with the smaller coolant holes in it.

Valves are same... until m30b35 and then they are bigger.

There is a good FAQ re heads on First Fives website. First result if you google "M30 cylinder head". It suggests the 525 head works with the correct gasket.

It was shared some time but might be hard to find in the end.

Having it by the hand...

Hello Barry, the head shouldn’t place on a flat table because it will rest on some opened valves. The valve's could bend !

I tested my engine block coolant jacket today by putting a flat rubber gasket on top of my block then I used an old cylinder head as my “ blind flange “
I then blocked the outlet from the water pump and put a pressure guage on it.
I connected my compressor up to the coolant connection on the side of the block, the one that supplies coolant to the auxiliary air valve on a CSi
I put in 2 bar pressure and then closed my air inlet valve from my compressor.
2 hours later there was no pressure drop showing on the pressure gauge.
So I know my block is good .

I then tried to test my cylinder head.
I am not 100% sure yet if my rubber gaskets are sealed correctly.
I might have to spend a bit more time on it.
I used 2 pieces of box iron and drilled them to take 6 cylinder head bolts
I then made 3 blind rubber gaskets to cover all the coolant ports on the head , 2 for the face that normally meets the engine block and 1 for the thermostat housing.
I then put compressed air into the head through the heater pipe at the back of the head.
I put in 1 bar
I can hear a leak but so far I cannot see where it is (it might be my rubber gaskets )
I might have to submerge the head in water or maybe spray it with soapy water.
