Window switches

Have not looked at the 5 prong diagram but the 4 prong only switches the 12V to one output or another, the ground goes directly to the motor not through the switch as the early motor has two windings for up vs down.

The latter motor has a single winding and the switch is responsible for inverting the 12V and ground to the outputs.

Of the 4 prongs only three are used. Don't know about the 5 prong.

And, the new motors have 2 plug connections instead of 3. This makes the e28 rear door motors a simple plug and play for both front and rear windows on an e9. The three bolt holes on the e28's are in exactly the same place as the e9 late OE motors.

Alan,

IF I recall correctly, the 4 prong switches actually have a plastic 'peg' that fits in the 'slot' of the cable harness, so the switch can only be oriented in one way when plugged into the harness. Check both your switches and the cable harness to be sure which switch you require.

Alan,

You have a 74, the motors will be plug and play. Your switches have female sockets for the pins, can't go wrong unless you bought switches with spade terminals.
