Hi,
The windshield of my ́74 e9 is cracked so needs to be replaced.
What is the best solution these days?
Are we still facing filment issues with the OEM ones?
I see two different color sold in the past: clear or green tinted. What was the original installed color?
The gasket is dry rotted. Same question: BMW OEM or aftermarket?
Thanks,
Stephane.

All US cars have the green tint, euro could have had clear. The 74 has the larger lower trim so you need the 74 and later rubber gasket which is NLA. Don had posted a supplier in Europe with early thin trim gasket but that won’t work for you. We haven’t seen any later gaskets, glass shouldn’t be a fitment issue like on the coupes.

I have bought BMW glass from the dealer and thrown it away.
Walloth sells good glass. If your car is USA- you most likely want to match the rest of your car and go green as Chris has said.

It is speculated that the narrow pillars supporting the roof make it particularly susceptible to deformation before and/or after the windshield glass is removed. You won't know until the glass is out. Remove the old glass intact if at all possible (may destroy the gasket) and compare to new dimensions. Because of the very inconsistent dimensions of replacement glass, your supplier MUST have a favorable return policy, and a well founded understanding of installation risks must exist with your service provider.
Also note, tariffs applicable to overseas purchases make replacement an expensive proposition, but who said E9 ownership was easy or cheap?
