The 2002faq clan has a thread going on projects so I thought I would ask - what projects have you got planned for the winter? That's assuming you have actual winter - see http://www.e9coupe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10230 to find out what winter is.

My list (long winters):

Front seat belts installed into rear quarters
Roll bar tweaks/more seam welding
Cabin floors detailed for rust and sound deadening
Late motronic intake and FI transplant/Tii booster swap
Roof panel patch/sunroof deleted
Rear shock tower repair
Fit front bumper to CSL airdam

Doug, plans for the winter. Well I am out considerable cash for failed snow tire experiments, so the tree will look a little bare this winter. Tried Nokia's on the wagon as I heard they are great in the snow. After less than 1 tank of gas I have sold them at a considerable loss and have gone back to Michelin Pilot Alpin 3's. Next up, my wife's MDX needed new rubber too. We put Blizzak WS70's on that. Seem very nice in the dry, so I think this tire will be great on the MDX. Oh yeah. projects...

Well I bought a bunch of stuff from US suppliers in the last month. A new Portable welding table from Northern Tool and an Eastwoods powder coat gun. I have to finish off the plumbing in my workshop to give me air throughout. I will then be able to set up my small Glass bead cabinet. Once that is done, then I plan on making a small oven out of a Hot Plate with a piece of insulated stovepipe on top of it. It should be big enough to do things like Valve covers, etc. needs to be about 400f inside. Hope this works, as I do not want to buy an old Oven off Craigslist and store it.
My initial plans for the E9 are to renovate under the hood. I want it to look showroom new with the Bonnet up. Other than the obvious corrosion repair on the upper fender, I think it will be straightforward to accomplish. A few parts I would like to get Yellow Zinc plated. I want to get the wheels refinished, brakes rebuilt and suspension refreshed in terms of links and bushings. The other cars will get a bit of attention too. Not sure how the winter will go down. I really have not driven my Coupe yet, so it will be a new experience for me when the Groundhog gives me the Green light in May.

winter, what winter ?

yeah, it seems strange, but in the rainy baskenland we are experiencing a really good sunny and mild temp. winter, that means that almost everyday is an "e9 day", subsequently my winterprojects are "frozen" in the shelf

quite a few spares lay down at home, bored, while the engine keeps on running, and the funny thing is that i am not upset by this situation, i am happy to be able to run the car in this fantastic weather, even better than summer weather for coupeing

my todo list includes:

brake calipers, suspension silentblocks, door brakes, clean and grease rear window mechanisms,...

Winter work

Nicad, What wheels came with the car? On the topic of snow tires, my daughter has the Blizzak WS - 70 on her Honda Fit and is very pleased with them especially on hard pack and ice. My tire of choice is the Continental Winter Extreme on a Subieroo for both ice and snow. In spite of living in the Rockies we get more ugly driving as a result of ice than deep snow.

deQuincey - what are silence blocks?

The car has Alpina 16 inch wheels. I have a new set of Conti Extreme DW 's for it. It should look amazing with fresh straight Alpinas. I am a winter tire nut, but for me they have to feel secure at 130-140 KMH/Hr. So far the best I have tried that still handle in the dry are Pirelli 210's,the Michelins and Yoko AVS Winter. The Nokians had a very uneasy feeling at 130 if you were to simulate an emergency swerve. Also the rain performance was not acceptable compared to the predictable (But less winter oriented Michelins). I am sure the snow and cold performance of the Nokia is premium.

Replacing old hood insulation, sourcing period radio and installing Rockford Fosgates, detailing above, below, inside and out, possibly reveneer wood work with cherry, birdseye maple or carpathian elm burl with my spare steering wheel to match, possibly make the dash speaker panel hold the GPS, in other words getting ready for The Vintage in NC.

Bob,

find somebody with an electric kiln (for firing ceramics). they are big enough to put a valve cover in to bake it in. they will hold temperature and will go higher than 400 if you want ...

Sort of coupe related

My winter project is shown in the photos: fix the building that houses the coupe. As you can see in the first photo, we moved into a house with a one-car garage. We had a local craftsman put up a post-and-beam side building. It sat like this for a couple of years. Recently, carriage doors were put up on both the garage and the side-shed. As of this morning -last photo- you can see that the weather has slowed some of the work. The cardboard "window" is a mock-up to get a better idea of the sizing.
What is the point of all this? The one-car garage can now hold two! Inside the garage is a bendpak four-post lift. To make it possible to lift a car up without crushing the roof, we had to replace the overhead door with ones that swing out and redesign the trusses holding the rafters (sorry, no photos). I hope to have it weather-tight before any serious fronts move through.

Very Nice, but where will the children play B Ball?

I like that R32 Golf. We never got those in Canada. Nice looking garage. The Bendpack 4 post lift is on my wish list. I will have to raise the roof of my garage to make it work.

Get the wheels cleaned up and either painted or powder coated. New tires. Use the two Blapunkt Berlins that I have to get one working.

Some winter projects already done......

When the car is practically finished renovated there are just minor improvements for winter projects.

I've noticed during warm weather (around 30degrees) the motor temp was rising to almost red area at idle rev.

I've now cleaned the cooling system and together with the upgrade to the later fan (9-blade) I think this will improve the cooling at low rev. There is big different in original 5-blade fan towards 9-blade. Now with open hood at idle, there is a tornado in the engine bay :)

Also a early Christmas present to myself was an Nardi wheel just for fun.

Winter or maybe early spring

My coupe is stripped down and has had a lot of TLC from Vintage Sports & Racing. The body is straight and smooth, the primer is curing and the Chamonix paint goes on after Christmas.

I will install the trim, headlights, trunk interior, cabin interior and hope to have her on the road by Memorial Day. With luck, my friend Chris will help me!
