On my list of parts to look out for are some wiper blades. Did the 71' have Black painted blades or metal? My wiper arms are Satin stainless.

Tia.

Thanks Steve.

Just checked the site. I might consider these, but my inner cheapskate is gonna have a hard time coughing up that much. Anyone have an old set with brittle rubber please PM me.

I'll also look into buying a standard Black set and bead blasting the arms and coating in a clear satin. Hmmmn. If it works, I'll go into production.

Thanks.

Yea they aren't cheap but I haven't seen any on eBay by themselves and we've all seen what the sets go for - keep us posted on your alternative

Suppose you are referring to the actual Bosch black wiper blade metal frame and not the oem black wiper arm set.

Yes, just the blade. DO you know of other German cars that had the same sized Blades? Maybe Ebay will cough up a wiper from an unwanted model.

Wiper Blades

I took the inserts out of a set of Bosch blades and painted the frames satin silver I think they look fine and very reasonable.

Trico makes silver metal blade holders, Trico Classic, I haven't been able to find the part number for the correct attachment. What other 60's era vehicles have the 'U' (Shepherd's Crook) connection?

Advance Auto Parts:
BMW 2002, Bayonet Mount, part number Trico Classic 33-150, $7.99ea

Were the original wipers 16 "? the ones on my car are 18" and appear to fit well.

Those are some type of aftermarket blade and don't match the originals, notice the slots in the blade holders and the plastic mounting point/pivot. Pretty pricey too.

Chris, Murray , Steve...
Are these the correct wiper blades for a 71? You might have to zoom in.

They look very Teutonic, which is good.

Wiper blade carriers--

The correct wiper arms are usually brushed s/s and correct carriers should match. Unfortunately rmost carriers have been replaced with black ones by whoever was tasked with re placing the rubber blades the first or second time around. Just because it was an easier fix and "they" could charge more due a more expensive part.

The picture of the ones shown is of poor quality and dosn't look quite right--suggest be patient and a correct pair will show up on e-bay or someone on this board will have a correct pair available.

Good luck!!

Black Wiper Blades

I took paint stripper to my black wiper arms and underneath I have either SS and or a moderately good chrome ( 2 pieces don't seem to be the same ). The black paint bubbled right off and the wiper blades appear to be SS with chromed wind deflecors on both wipers. I think DOT frowned on the reflective power of SS and chrome and mandated that wipers be non reflective for safety sake. I have experienced some significant reflections. Driving into the Sun is double the pleasure with these and a Nardi steering wheel. I will try to bear up under the stress.

Regards, Jon

Trico Classic 33-162. Will have to be ordered from your favorite parts supplier that sells Trico products.

Ok, here is one more photo I have of the wiper in question. It might need some zooming. Says Germany on it and has a discreet Logo. Does this one ring a bell with anyone?

Tia. Hope this thread isn't getting too mundane for you E9 ers.
