Wiper linkage, missing part in my system?

After having dissected, de-rusted, painted and zinced various parts of the wiper system, I started to rebuild it today.

I am noticing that one large nut ( #18 in the books) screws directly on the black frame, where from a mechanical point I expect a washer. So I check the parts drawings, and indeed I see numbers 19 and 20; a toothed ring and a washer.

Now strangely enough my car did not have those numbers 19 and 20, nor did a replacement set from a parts car ( I had to replace the left side pivot, it was badly rusted)

Question to the group: were parts 19 and 20 really installed in the factory?
I've been comparing pictures from our forum, but it is often difficult to make out these small parts, but some threads show similar condition as what I found.
DeQuincey has an excellent thread as always; no numer 19 nor 20 visible in his assembly pics. Dhanna shared some pics via a link, but also his system is missing now's 19 and 20 it seems...

I start to to think the parts booked are wrong on this point. I have been searching some more, and i have seen zero signs of these ring/washer combo and quite a few pics of dirty cars being pulled apart. It would be too much a coincedence that in 5 teardowns, the ring/washer combo was both missing.

Could it be a change over production years? Mine is may '73.
Anyone with an old, say, pre 71 model can chime in?

i am 71, not pre 71

So, still young! And i think a ride on your motorcycle will make you feel even younger.

Funny though that those parts are no where to be found.

I thought some parts were hard to find; csl specific panels, those correct radio buttons, the 'ears' between the inner door handle and the door panel, but no, those are easy compared to a simple but original M16 ring!

That is confusing about the parts diagram is that #21 shows an unlisted nut on the linkage. The picture doesn't convey the fact that the M16x1.0 threaded sleeve floats freely, and that nut shown in #21 keeps the collar sandwiched between the linkage bar. Your setup looks correct to me as well. I've had a few and they all look like this. I will say that I do have a spare E3 2500 linkage. There is a small aluminum spacer that doesn't hide under the chrome decorative washer. It's not the same aluminum washer that you find on e9's. So needless to say there are differences, but there is no extra nut on the underside of the linkage arm.

Thanks Markos for checking this! Happy to learn that both you and Wladek have thesame opinion.
I can sleep well now that my system is ok.

By the way, the nut that is on the part listed as #21 is actually crimped into place on that threaded sleeve, so that is perhaps why it did not get a unique number.
