I have an early 2800cs #,,,00163
There was a change to intermittent wipers sometime after mine was born.
The switch changed also, or relay?

I have what I believe to be an intermittent switch mistakenly installed.(by me)
My parts car was an e3, Bav, w/ Inter/ wipers.

My problem is that my wipers only work on 1 speed and no motion in the other position. When I switch the wires on the rear it works, at the same speed, in the other switch position.
The switch poles number states on the rear 53, 53a, 53b . 53 is the power connect,

Is it a bad switch or the wrong switch?

I have the console near completion and wish to fix this issue.

I live in the desert and rarely ever needed my wipers. I forgot how to activate them at the control stalk.

thanks

Find the correct wiper switch part number on a website that has the BMW parts fiche (realoem.com comes to mind first, there are numerous others) and compare to what you have.

Next, compare "your" part number to those on later cars. This will advise you of part number differences, but note that a different part number doesn't mean that your switch is/not correct or will not work. Sometimes the numbers change for seemingly insignificant reasons and the function remains the same.

Thanks Charlie
Hadn't thought about reverse research.

I have determined that the switch is the correct one, and good.

I diagnosed the problem and it appears that the plug to the wiper motor had come loose. One contact, high speed, was disconnected.
Female spade adapter had slipped/moved out of the right position. Thus no contact.
Cleaned up well with WD40, and 400 sand paper.

Working like new.

I hadn't touched that fitting in over 30 years.
Damned gremlins!!!
