Hi guys
I have bought new loom tape for my engine bay and I am hoping to strip off the old tape and check all wires then clean the connectors and re-tape it all back up again.
So I am wondering could you recommend a good method for cleaning the connectors.
Should I soak them in petrol or thinners or hot soapy water
I’m slightly worried to try the thinners just in case it dissolves the insulation but if it is a proven method it and if it doesn’t harm the insulation, it might be my best option.
Any ideas on what to do ?
Thanks.

I've done the entire harness a year ago.
Really had good results with a basic small ultrasonic cleaner on the connectors. Gets them really clean. Here's one really filthy connector, after an ultrasonic bath: Screenshot_20230426_231625_Samsung Internet.jpg

Go soft on the solvents, as most colored lines on my harness were painted, and they will come off leaving you with unmarked sections if too long submerged in solvent.

I suspended the harness with 10 hooks on a wire above my shop workbench. This allows to unravel the old harness tape easier then having the harness in a pile on your desk.

I used metal wires to keep the wires fixed in temporary positions, keepiing splits in exactly the same position and orientation. Without the tape it soon becomes a big pile of spaghetti...

After removal of the tape there is a lot of glue residue. Use some mild solvent to wipe each strand.

Some more experiences here:
