I wonder if that vibration dampener is really needed with the newer rotary (or multi-piston) AC compressors. The original single piston (I think) York compressors produced large pulses in the system, so probably needed some way to smooth out the fluid flow.

The newer ones have nearly smooth flow of gaseous/liquid Freon. My '74 with a Bosch compressor does not have the dampener in the AC line. I'm replacing that with a Sanden, and it will not have the dampener either. Just my thoughts!
