WTB: Alpina Bilstein race suspension

If Bilstein supplied the shocks and I think they did, you can have them rebuild them. Bert P. I believe knows someone who can rebuild also. Do you have any photos?

Yes I know they can just wondering if someone might have a set. I know it’s like finding a unicorn but you never know.

Not really race Bilsteins…Pretty much all the Bilsteins for E3 or e9 had the same valving as the springs are all close in rate, even on an ”AlpIna” the only difference would be shorter or no internal bumps stop…a race shock back in the day might have adjustable damping. If you are talking about a group 4 or 5 car them maybe something exotic with a lot of adjustability, otherwise a Bilsteins sport damper should be suitable for your “AlpIna”….

Thanks

I have a pair of "upside down" Bilsteins that came with my car. I think they may have been commissioned by Alpina but I can find no info on them and the numbers on them don't ring any bells with current Bilstein Tech service.

Bilstein HD and Sport I know are the same for the E3. Originally they had both but they were so close in size and valving was the same.....that is what I did get from Bilstein Tech service.

Danny, if you have a worn out set, have you talked to Bilstein about reconditioning them? they used to do revalve work, etc.

You still have not added any details or photos….if a race car does it have coil over rears like most? Are they adjustable valving….? Are you using standard front housings or something custom/shortened?

I have over 100 Bilsteins in stock and also have some of the inventory from the east coast AlpIna Importer but without any other info other than “AlpIna” and ”Race Car” maybe you should try the folks over in one of the Facebook Groups…

Also twice people have suggested just getting your pieces rebuilt, which would keep you from buying something that did not actually fit your “AlpIna Race Car”

Thanks

Al I sent you a PM Its an early race car from 1970 No coil overs but Im sure Alpina prepared specific gassing specs for the race cars through Bilstein

congrats if you have an original Alpina race car from that early...a very rare thing......I think coil-overs were not really in use until 1971=2 nor were small diameter springs. And Bilstein were not using adjustable dampers until the E36 Super Touring era.... so it would have had fairly basic suspension on it in period......but nothing relating to street car parts.....how come you don`t have the original parts to rebuild or copy ?

I do but they have been rusting away for 52 years
