I feel I've seen an ad in the back of Roundel magazines (maybe not current issues, but a handful of years back) for a company that fixes/refurbishes these screens.
Are the pixels the "only" problem or you would like also new front plate?
If it is the display they are many who repairs them. Ribbon cable which was glued by temperature and pressure had delaminated over time, vibration and temperature.
I was installing it and when I pushed it into the dash with pressure along the edges, the face went dead. I have sent it to a repair place that HBChris uses and they told me the faceplate has to be replaced and it is a common problem. I have been able to find every part but not the faceplate, repair shop is having the same issue. I know Rover uses the same radio, dead end there too.
I'll search my Rondels to see if I can find the add you refer to.
This radio is a nice upgrade for an e24 or e28. Want to use it in my M6 which still has the factory cassette

For me it looks like ribbon issue. Hard to tell more remotely so could be the issue is other than it looks to be.
BTW ... Rover is having green backlighting.
This radio is extreme rare, so the only way is to wait for donor, but I would expect it will also have faulty faceplate.
I would look for the working one with warranty. The other options are risky for you, assuming this is not the connection problem.
