What do you mean aluminium? All genuine are steel.
Did you owned W&N one?
I've heard that the aluminium ones are used only on the 2000CS, personally I have no idea if it's true.
original door striker catch are these
material is sintherised powder zinc, aluminium, magnesium and copper, better known as zamak, not steel

Mine October 72 csi have steel set (not W&N), another set from 74 csi also was steel.
i have one here in Atlanta ... not a NOS unit, it came from a '70 - 2800 cs
all genuine ?

Are the aluminium ones really superior to the steel versions? I have two aluminium catches in storage but both have cracks and some small pieces missing.
Might just be a coincidence, but they sure feel fragile compared to the ones made out of steel.

Taga is genuine BMW manufacturer - that's no doubt. So, i guess, i was wrong thinking that there was no aluminium version.
I showed the full list - to show that is hard to say if aluminium catches are genuine exactly for E9 (2.5CS, 2800CS, 3.0CS, CSI, CSL), not for NK - 2000C, 2000CA or 2000CS which are not E9.
Maybe aluminium catches as Gransin mentioned where used in NK or very early 2800CS & later where replaced with steel version because of cracking or some other reasons (that is just my theory).
i did not think mine were aluminum ... some form of a cast alloy perhaps. i will need to look at one
