I bought one as well. The hinge pin tube at the end of the new arm is wider than the original. I filed it down to fit down to fit the A pillar.

My driver's door brake just broke... and it is the new type, so no, they aren't indestructible... but they are certainly a better design than the original. Looking at pictures on Ebay, it seems the "updated" version is from an E23 7-series. I just bought a used one for about $10. Looks identical to what is currently on my car.
