Just as a bit of background to this _ i tried to replace the lens with another spare I had but no way was it going into this chrome frame from which it had not been living in!

Let me understand

You have a tail light lens in the frame and want to replace the large red piece for what I am assuming is a good reason, so if you have a good spare you can use a heat knife. If you are gentle, and ply it with wine and soft music you can probably melt the retaining edges and replace it with the better one. I have removed them unharmed but I have not tried to replace them.

Hi Peter, that was what i was doing but once removed the lens would not go into a different lamp. Perhaps one was a bit bent or was from a different batch - there were slightyl different markibgs on the lens.
