Looking for a Petri wheel for my soon to be coming E9, like everyone else I'm sure. I am located in CT USA. If you're open to shipping to US, I'm open to international transactions.

PM me with what you have.
Thanks!

decent petri wheels with good metal, correct horn button and hub are getting expensive here in the states. be careful with the texas seller 'bgo ego' or 'ego bgo' ... not sure which it is ... or what i call him - huge ego. he has been selling wheels of late with the incorrect horn button and an aftermarket hub for well over 1000 bucks. the wheel itself is generally in pretty good shape, but getting the correct hub and button is very difficult. and NO, this one is not for sale

Why doesn't this look right?

Its a pieced together wheel.

It's a rare "dished" petri 40cm wheel, never used on BMW's. So its not correct. Also using aftermarket CNC hub and momo horn button.

Built it for my hot rod project, but since sold that.

I like the dished Petri so much that I bought one myself! :)
Agree.
I am also dished 40 Petri owner and like it very much (rebuilt it to fit e9).
Last year i purchased correct BMW 38 Petri and at first moment when compared them side by side i was little bit disappointed with 38, because dished 40 have more wow effect, look more impressive (my personal opinion).

Hans Wortelboer and Bouke Veurman have a Facebook page called Vintage Volante. I have bought several pristine steering wheels from them including my two Petri wheels.

Floridabmx, also not clear on how a horn ring gets mounted to the steering column for the horn to work.

Are you referring to yourself in third person? :D

The horn ring is secured to the steering hub, but is insulated with a plastic spacer. The hub slides onto the splined steering shaft. When the hub is mounted, the horn ring makes contact with the brass plunger, which is mounted at 6PM on the steering column. The spring loaded plunger ensures that contact is never lost on the horn ring. The horn button gets power from the plunger through the horn ring, up an insulated lead, to the backside of the button. The button is grounded to the hub body. When you push on the button you close the circuit and the horn fires.

Thanks. So the ring is there solely to make contact with the plunger? He ring doesn't require an kind of power on it's own? Has anyone made this conversion work? If so can a parts list link be shared?

Yes

No

Can you clarify what conversion you had in mind? All e3/e9/e12/e21/early e24/early e28 use a horn ring with a plunger on the column. That is for factory wheels or aftermarket. The only conversion that comes up is adding a horn ring to a 2002 hub (the spline count matches). You can buy a horn ring and literally stick it on the hub. The 2002 plungers that are found on 2002 hubs are generally removable.

I just did this since I was in the garage. This is a very early solid aluminum 2002 hub with a steel base and a brass plunger. I removed the plunger and took a horn ring and ran the wire where the plunger was. I didn’t press it on all the way because it was very snug.

Would likely need to remove that spacer also.

I should mention that if you do t have a petri hub, you will need to mount it to a different hub. If I don’t go with a petri hub for mine, I’ll use a conversion ring or a quick disconnect.
