Are the mounting holes in the car the same for both types of mirrors?

Both mirrors use the same mounting base.
I have a set of "not as nice as Steve's" flag mirrors (assumption but likely true). I plan to let them go to someone - but haven't had a chance to pull them out and evaluate their current condition.
If you are looking for mint then mine are not, but they are in very good condish, no rust or cracks, just minor polishing swirls, I'll send pics later. If you like then maybe I pay some cold cash for the difference?
you can buy new flags from BMW and W+N. is this just what they have in stock or is this an indication that these have gone NLA ??? no idea
w+n only has the right side - when i bought mine from w+n, they were BMW parts (a year ago)

Here's a related question (although off topic to the OP's question): I see that the flag mirrors have a black plastic gasket around the mirror, and the trapezoid mirrors have a white gasket. But I've only seen reproduction traps. Were the originals also white?
That’s a great question! Our 2800 was built Jan 1970 and the mirror has a black surround but they must have changed shortly thereafter as every other one I’ve seen is white and when replacements were available they were white as well. The flags are always black and not replaceable.
I would think that black would be much more effective for viewing. One's eye is drawn to bright colors, and all I see with the white gasket mirrors is the white gasket. Whereas, the black goes away and one only sees the reflected view. Much like a television or phone screen.
Chris - do you remember the trap mirror that i sent you a while back ... and whether it had black or white? that was an original trap from an early 2800cs.
No clue Scott but I had never seen black before we got our 2800.
I had (c. 1972) a 69 and later a 72 2002 (same trap mirror as e9), and was almost positive that both were white gasket...I remember having to put new glass in the 69 at one point...memories fade like color photographs on the wrong wall, however...
