Actually it was originally red. Back in August of 2023 the residents of Southern California were warned that they were in the predicted path of tropical storm Hillary. Even though it was downgraded from a tropical storm as it approached LA, the owner of the car became concerned about the finish on their beloved "Red Velvet Cake" AMG GT. He decided it was best to jump in the "Cakester" and make a bee line for Palm Springs. Sadly he left it too late and was caught in the deluge as he neared his destination.

The owner put the car away wet in a friend's garage, thinking it would dry off soon enough. It was Palm Springs after all. Little did he realize that the normally bone-dry garage would soon be filled with 2" of standing water and muck. This combination of wet vehicle finish and the humid soup of water, biological materials and mud were the perfect combination to kick off a mold infestation. It eventually took over the whole exterior finish, and turned it from a brilliant, deep red, to a - well, for lack of a better term - shit brown.

The owner eventually had the car towed to a detail shop for "paint correction," but the shop's employees all became ill soon after the car's arrival. This initiated a call to the California EPA who came out and declared it a "toxic event," which was more than enough to declare it a total loss. There's one small, positive thing to come from the whole ordeal though: the car now holds the Guinness Book of Records title for world's fastest Super Fund Site.

I'm pretty good with mold! Any idea what it went for? Can't figure how the paint could change color? For some that new color might be a feature.
