Anyone ever mess with the thermo start valve, a little rectangular box hung on the secondary side of the carb? One wire to it, hot when ignition is on, opens a small port that bleeds air into the secondary above 57 degrees F.
I have four of these: two don't work at all (infinite resistance, heater element burnt out) and one that measures 14 ohms (supposed to be 13) another 22 ohms (supposed to be 20).
Apparently these work just like the idle air passage on the primary venturi, except they have no needle valve adjustment. Now mine are all gefloooey, but it's always above 57 degrees. Thus, whether they work or not, they should always be open, so all I need to do is install a pair and wedge the little bimetallic spring so the itty bitty port is always open.
RIGHT?
