Murray Fowler has been asking me to organize a coupe cruise for quite a while and since he just turned 83 I thought it was time to get my act together and put something on the calendar. The attached flyer has some information and I will supply route maps/directions that have been used in the past by our friends at SoCalVintage. I am hoping we can bring out all of you local coupe enthusiasts to say hello to Murray and thank him for all of his contributions to the BMW community over the years. In a week or two I will ask everyone who intends to participate to send me a PM so I know how many coupes we will have. Thanks everyone, hope to see you on Saturday March 3rd.

Wouldn't miss it. Count me in for sure.

I'm going to use this as motivation to get some of the repairs/maintenance done on my car. Hopefully I can be there. I should at least make it to the C & C that week.

This should work, I am pasting in the Google Map directions for the drive.

Everyone who participates will need to print a copy for yourself. We will probably stop for lunch at Coogies Beach Cafe in the Malibu Colony.

We have had a good response so far, thanks.

I may be a go on this one. I have an SCCA race the weekend before and may not have time to get my Coupe cleaned up. Hopefully, I can start working on it next weekend.

It is looking very good for me to make it. I did have to install a center drag link this weekend but the steering feels solid now and ready for a workout.

My wife doesn't like to be the only woman on these kinds of events. Can anyone tell me if they are bringing a female companion?

Definitely coming! I was able to drag Mitch out too. Neither of us have a "running" coupe, but we will show up in something respectable.

Hello Gentlemen,

I would like to introduce myself to all of you and share my little story (I think all of us have one) about my ‘addiction’.
In early 90’s while spending my summer with my grandparent in their country home I receive a package from USA from my uncle.
It was a model car, the one I will never forget, and I wish I’d saved. White in color, with those tri-colored stripes and wide fenders to hide wide massive wheels in them. That magical style of the headlights, separate grills and unique body lines stuck in my memory. That day, back in the former Soviet Union Russia I fell in love with BMW. And all of you guessed it right, it was a 3.0CSL!
And if it’s alright with all of you, it would be an honor for me to join you guys for that canyon ride on this Saturday. I wont be coming in E9 unfortunately, as I don’t have one yet, but it will be a BMW product nevertheless.

We would be glad to have you join us, not everyone will be in coupes.

Nice seeing everyone's coupes today at C&C. Was going to go home and grab my coupe and meet up for the lunch portion, but don't think I knew anyone else there.

We had thirteen coupes today, what a great turnout with a few newer coupe owners joining us too. The weather was perfect, traffic was light, lunch was excellent. Hope I remember everyone: Charles Baldonado, Mitch Brookheiser, Mike Burger, Paul Cain, Jeff d'Avanzo, Murray Fowler, Steve Johnson, Mark Judy, Glenn Mueller, Carl Nelson, Ron Perry, Gary Whittman, Lou Alvarado, Joe Crowley, Dave McFayden, Matt Hoffman, Fred Larimer, Jerry Dotson and Jeff Tige (not everyone was in a coupe). Fred shot a lot of photos (thank you Fred!) and we will post a link to his photo site in a day or two.

The photographer at the Rock Store (a well known biker hangout) posts his photos at http://rockstorephotos.com/. Check in a day or two and you will likely find a shot of your ride available for purchase.

What a great day and all of us had a great time but especially Murray who was chauffeured by Mike Burger. Just a bit of traffic leaving Malibu but not too bad. Next time we may head for Lake Arrowhead or down Carl and Glenn's way in San Diego county. Get those coupes out and exercise them!

Fred- Great photos! You really caught the best images of the day. Thanks for going through the trouble of taking and posting.

Great time. I was glad to see some old friends and meet a few new ones.

Let's set something up in a few months. Some folks discussed Temecula wineries . . . .

Jealous. Just jealous. The good weather, the cars, the friendly coupe owners. Waiting impatiently here in Vancouver until the skies clear and the roads dry. Last year, that meant July! Thanks for the photos Fred.

Chris,

Thanks again for setting up the event. I really wish we didn't have to rush back up to MB and could have enjoyed the whole day with the crew. Anyway, it was great to meet you all at C&C and see my Verona 3.6 with some solid company.

Cheers,

JP

Hello Board,

My daughter co-piloted the event with me and together we caught some video of the day riding with Murray and fellow E9ers that I'd like to share. Nothing professional by any means, but it captures the essence of the day. Lots of fun with great people!

I'd like to say thanks to Chris for arranging such a great day that included reserved parking at C&C as well as lunch reservations at Coogie's. Nice work Chris. Also, thanks to Fred for getting a great assortment of nice photos of the day. And of course, Murray, for being such a long time champion of the marque.

So here's the sequence of events:
1. Cars N Coffee -- Irvine (Group 1)
2. Group 1 heading northbound on the 405 fwy
3. Group 2 meets Group 1 at Vons in Malibu
4. Caravaning up Topanga Canyon
5. Pit stop at the summit of Malibu hills
6. Heading to lunch on PCH

Enjoy!

Mark your Baikal coupe is beautiful - I think this is now my favorite color. Thanks for posting the video.

in such a special way--
Chris for planning and executing the event, BTW your're the one for many more in the future--Fred for such great photos, though must admit some of your photos make me look as OLD as dirt--Mark and daughter for their great "you tube" video--to Mike Burger for his smooth driving skills that once again kept BLUMAX "out of the weeds"--and to all my old and some new Coupe friends for making Saturday such a very special occasion--and finally for the weaatherman for sending us a magnificant day.

It really warmed this old sailors heart!!

That was a wonderful event. I very much enjoyed cruising with all the Coupes and lunch was great too. Chris, you did an outstanding job of organizing this and hope you will offer this service again.

There was a little mistake in listing my car. It is a Baikal 2800 but it doesn't mind being called a blue 3.0.
