Ladies and gentleman, damen und herren, madams and monsieurs:

It's official. I am pleased to announce that I am now writing for Road and Track. Starting in October and running every other issue, you'll see a short piece called "Lost Art" (as in "working on your own car is a") in the back of the magazine. It is not a column. And I am so totally NOT replacing Peter Egan (as if anyone could). But if you haven't subscribed to the revamped R&T yet, you should, and I would be honored if I am one of the reasons that you do. Editors Larry Webster, Sam Smith, and John Krewson are doing cool things.

I take that back. To say "I am pleased to announce" makes it sound like I'm joining a law firm or something. It's more like I'm grinning to ear to ear because I'm 13 years old and the cool girl asked ME to the dance. Most things of value in this world trace back to feeling like you're 13 years old. If cars and car magazines do that to you, join the club.

I will still be writing every other month for Roundel. As luck would have it, I appear to have gotten on a schedule where both articles are due the same month. Sucks to be me.

I hereby promise to slip in as many E9 references as I can get away with.

Rob - a hearty congratulations. Not only will you be a major contributor to R&T and Roundel but also a key contributor to the rise in awareness (and perhaps valuations) of our beloved E9s..... But shhhhh if you listen very very quietly you will hear the crackling sound of an E9 rusting

Dear Hack Mechanic:

Congratulations on your new gig. Feeling like a chick magnet, eh!

If you use the "supermodel" line, however, please give proper attribution.

Cheers...

Congratulations. I just may give that magazine a shot again.

Yea - I too used to faithfully read R&T - even subscribed back when I was young and poor - but haven't touched it in years.

"Lost Art" (as in "working on your own car is a")

Hmm, I suppose that working on your own car really is a lost art. Of course, modern cars don't make it easy for the DIY mechanic. But perhaps Rob's writing will interest more people in the "art".

Congrats, now about that tour to Maine

Rob,
Congrats. Got your book early this summer and enjoyed it.
Don't forget about the idea of doing a writeup about the Owl's Head Museum for the Roundel, combined with a Chapter tour next year.

Okay now! In the spirit of frugality, which is a major part of understanding your E9 and doing your own work, I see that a 2-year R&T subscription is $15 at https://subscribe.hearstmags.com/subscribe/splits/roadandtrack/roa_sem_google?source=sem_gog

I year R&T for $10,

1 year of Car and Driver for another $5 with either of the above.

Anyone get a better deal?

Rob you can recycle CCA articles too unless they now own them, and maybe with your sudden rise to fame and fortune, they'll give you a raise. Tell Satch I said so.

Rob, I see an article entitled "The application of medical instruments to car repair" in the future.

That is fantastic. I have been a reader for over 30 years.

Given the competition among magazines for ad dollars and readers, they are smart to double down and go for quality. They are lucky to get you.

I still prefer the old Road and Track with more text and less white space, so hopefully you can contribute to the "more text" side.
