Hi all:

My 1974 3.0CS came with a steering wheel that I have not seen in any other CS so far, deffinately BMW, but I wonder if it may be a later model's retrofitted. It is very similar to the regular '74 wheel I have seen but not quite it...

Anyhow, pics are worth a thousand words, right?

Can you tell me if it is correct for the car, and if not, show me - preferably with pictures - options of wheels correct for '74 that I could look for?

Thanks,
victor

And this one is what I regularly have seen in '74 models...

The wheel fitted to your coupe was first introduced for the early (77-80 perhaps) E24 630/633/635CSi coupes. It was also used for the early E23 7 series sedans and maybe the 5 series as well.

Mmmm..... that means I need to look for a correct 1974 steering wheel.

Now... were there any other options available for '74? Let's say I am not too fond of the correct wheel's design.

Would anybody have a correct for '74 steering wheel available for sale?

Thanks!

Ditto for the Petri (38cm).

Factory E9 brochure photo showing CSL fitted with leather wrapped 38cm Petri.

From the same brochure, leather 4 spoke steering wheel on a CS/CSi.

74 Cs wheel.

The standard wheel that was supplied for 74 cs was ( in the UK anyway) was plastic, as per your third illustration. Typical of BMW at the time a leather option was available, it was only supplied as standard on the larger e3 models.

Keep in mind the wheels for the CS and CSi are different sizes... the CSi is smaller in diameter by about an inch or so...

So, if I get it right, a buyer could choose a Petri (or was that one available only on CSL?), which I admit is gorgeous, or a more common 4 spoke wheel but covered in leather, instead of a regular rubber (uncovered) one. Correct?

Thanks!
Victor

Thanks, dtortoise9, but I already got the steering wheel from deQuincey.
