72 3.0CS auto what's it worth

It's time for this to go!
What's it worth, I'll probably be putting this on Denver Craigslist but I figured I'd get a feel for it's value from the experts.
1972 BMW 3.0CS Auto, Euro edition imported from Italy, have Federalization papers and clear title.
Verona Red with blue velour interior, odometer is stuck at 138,000 km ( odometer gear problem ) as speedometer works fine.I have put only about 20,000 miles on it in the last 14 years, used as 3rd car.
Three speed original ZF auto transmission.
BMW original 3.0 liter straight six with dual Weber carbs well tuned.I will include the original dual carburetor cover with air filters.
Ansa exhaust system, sounds like a 12 cylinder Ferrari when driving through a tunnel.
Period correct, original 14" alloys repainted (correct Wurth Silver paint) and clear laquered about 4 years ago.Tires are about 4 years old and look new.
Original chrome bumpers and trim, all in very good shape.
Momo steering wheel.
3 year old heater motor.
Glass is all original with no cracks at all.
All lights,instruments, horn , wipers and washers, power windows all work, car is plumbed for A/C but previous owner disconnected interior controls ( included ).
Car starts great and runs great all the way out to 6000 RPM.
No fluid leaks.
I have had this car for 14 years and it has never failed Colorado smog test, continuously registered for that time.
If you are familiar with these cars you know that the number one enemy of these cars is rust and this has it (see pics ). I do not have the time to deal with restoring the rust areas.The hood also has a crack in it.The dashboard has cracks and the dash wood could use refinishing.Car is missing a few interior parts, one ashtray, lower trim panels, lower trim panel lock, small stuff.Carpet is worn. Heater switch only works on high speed. Could use one side grill. Just trying to be honest!

I cannot price this one without knowing why the engine bay is painted black.

the little things are easy:

+ 2 for Verona
- 2 for auto
+ 2 for Euro
-1 For Momo
- 1/2 for sealed beams on a Euro
- 2 for dash and wood crack
+ 1 for mechanicals
 
Jim, I think the "worth" of the car is that it gave you 14 years of excellent service and that you seem to have enjoyed it. There are much more knowledgable folks on the site but the danger areas are visibly showing fairly serious rust bubbles and distortion of the panels. Since the car is basically complete it looks like a possible candidate for a full restoration, but that will cost the new user a large sum of money and/or time, so it seems like you are being honest about the condition and knowing what it will take to make the car "right" I think you're looking at a pretty low e9 price despite the fact that it is a very pretty car. IMHO you could part it out or sell it to someone who would do a complete restoration. Either would probably net the same amount.

Good advice

Will get some fenders pics as soon as it quits raining.

Car has been wonderful, old enough for cheap insurance and registration, it's mechanical and easy to work on except for anything to do with the dash
Slightly OT:
I've had about 15 BMW's, newest was 6 years old (72 2002), most expensive was 6K (87 L6).
I've always had 2-3 and have never lost more than 1K on resale even after putting 100k on them.Some basic skills keep your cost of automobile ownership down.
 
I have peeked into just about every nook and cranny, no sign of anything but red.Did see some trace of gray on a misguided foray under the dash but figured that was primer.Good point, I wonder if I can run the VIN on a BMW website.

2 ideas - 1st, look on the drivers door post and see what the number is on the korman tag. if not, go to e9-driven.com ... there is an email to bmw archive where you can find out the original information about your car
