okay guys, i went to change the light bulb in my engine compartment ... since it wasn't working. i unscrewed the cover, noticed there wasn't a bulb ... so as i was reaching for a new bulb to put in it ... the whole fixture fell into my hands. so as i learned, the primary reason that the fixture didn't have a bulb was that there was no wiring attached to the fixture. i guess when a PO repainted the hood, the wiring disappeared or was lost in the process.

can anybody let me know the routing of the wiring (i'm sure it comes up near one of the hinges). from the wiring diagram i presume that it comes up on the left side as the green / yellow wire to the connector 7 also connects to the left turn signal and fuse 1. the brown + red wire should connect to the switch. i haven't looked for the switch location yet as at night in a garage ... with a black car it can sometimes be difficult. so if anybody can snap a picture i would appreciate it.

I just did this , its a grey/yellow wire from memory coming up next to the headlight access cover on the left and then through a grommet in the bonnet to the left of the hinge also. Then you just need a bit of earth wire to the switch which is aloingside the light. The power comes from the side light so if you open the bonet the switch growunds out. When closed the light switch should hit a bit of angle metal on the firewall to mean the circuit is broken when the bonnet is closed.

Regards,

Rohan

thanks Rohan,

i know the piece of metal you are talking about as i have seen it on my coupe but never thought about what it was for. now to find that switch and see if the wiring is there or not.

cheers

I think it is the same switch as is used on the doors to activate the interior light. My wiring was missing so I had to wire it from the side light wiriging using a grey wire with nice yellow painted on!

one follow up question - i know there is a long switch and a short switch (the rod length is different). which is used on the hood?

The hood light switch is up next to the light. Not sure if it is the short or long one, if you want a comparison to another switch let me know. The wire comes out by the driver side hinge. It goes into a plastic connector of some sort under the light housing plate. Pics:

that would be one of the short switches. the good news is those are much more readily available. the long switches are hard to find.

okay sports fans ... now i know why i didn't have any wires. i also didn't have a switch. all of that is fixable ...

now for the harder part. there is supposed to be a little angled piece of metal at the front edge of the firewall for the switch to hit and turn off the light. my coupe does not have this metal piece. is this a bolt on piece or a fabricated / welded piece. if its a bolt-on piece, does anybody have one. if its a welded piece, i guess i will have to fabricate one. can somebody send me a pic or 2 of this piece ... and possibly a few dimensions - where it is located vertically, etc.

thanks in advance.

Steve,

From your pic it looks like your light is pointing up and away from the engine when hood is raised? Hard to tell.

Chris

it depends on whether or not you have a new one or an old one. the new ones are completely clear on all sides. i put one of those in my trunk. the lens that was under my hood was silver on the top side and clear faceted on the bottom side.

Hmmm, maybe that's why I can't see worth a **** with that light on! Will check it out. Good eye thanks.
