What are your favorite little tweaks?

Cheap tweaks

Convert from power steering to manual - while not for everyone it does remove the parasitic loss of the pump (free horsepower!!), takes a net 40lbs off the driver front side, is relatively easy and total cost around $250.

Just find a manual steering box and shaft from early E3 2500 Sedan, 2800 Sedan, 2800Bav Sedan or 3.0SBav Sedan, disassemble and clean it and reassemble with whatever new seals you can find and it's all a straight bolt it in. Try not to look at all the other things you could do at the same time (tie rods, steering arm bushings, suspension rebuild, 5 spd transmission etc etc etc) and it won't break the bank.

Plus, you get a great upper body work out every time you park (if it's anything like my 2002) - think of all those gym memberships you bought and used once. Just about pays for itself.

Windshield wiper motor cover, leather handbrake cover, hooking up the euro fog light to the brake lights. 2x$100. indulge me in this, the fiberboard? stone guard/wind deflector behind the front bumper, new fabric on the speaker grille. New wiper/pisser hose, new hood insulation.

Wow, I had to think about this one for a bit.

Install stainless steel guards in my front fenders to keep the road grit out so hopefully my front fenders will not rot out. Reverse the directional switch with the beam switch on my steering column, the same thing I did on my Bavaria back in the day. Paint the wiper arms and the bars in the center grill satin black. Move the side marker bulb into the back half of the parking / directional lamp. Remove the flag mirror from the swivel neck position and replace it with trapezoid mirrors at the front of the doors. Remove the front license plate from the front edge of the bumper and tuck it behind and below the bumper. Put a rubber strip on the leading edge of the front center bumper. Drop the rear license plate slightly so the upper edge of its chromed frame lines up with the chrome panel between the taillights. Finally I almost forgot, adding a secret kill switch to the car so it will be there when I return, I do live in New York you know. These were all the cheap tweaks I did that cost me very little , just a bunch of my time.

The more expensive modifications you probably couldn't call tweaks were dropping the nose down and installing late-model very easy to clean 16” wheels and dumping the automatic for a 5 speed. On my must do list is better, brighter lighting for the rear of the car. ~ John Buchtenkirch

side markers delete...

in the front and less protruding/almost flush ones in the back.

I haven't done this yet but on my list: electric fan to replace the "always on" mechanical one that sucks up power and is noisy.
