So the old girl spit her guts all over the floor last night, nothing major, seems to have been a rotten rubber hose, smaller dia one that goes from water pump to steel cooling tube under the inlet manifold.
While I was changing this over, I have noticed the Steel cooling tube (no8 on drawing) is knacked (lots of rust)
It would look like these are NLA? is this correct?
Maybe time to custom make something up?

I thought you said you were done? You are *never* done with a hobby car ...

Man, you got that right :)

Things keep popping up the more I drive it

New exhaust was completed 2 days ago (will post a small video clip with sound soon)
The old one had been rusting from the inside out, and as soon as I started driving the car it blew the guts out of the rear muffler.

Gearbox is grumbling real bad, so bearings to be done in this over winter, will also change over the shifter and DSSR at the same time.

After gearbox is done, I need to put the console back in and install the stereo

2 x lower stainless steel sill trims to be put on, They arrive in here in a few days.

Steel cooling fluid tube is knackered as I discovered the other day, so that needs doing now.

Front ride height is still a touch to high and there is a bit of "clunking" going on somewhere up front, sounds like the strut top bearings as these are the only bit I haven't changed.

Still want to install an alarm with remote key fob opening (solenoids are installed already for this)

And lots of other little things, looks like winter will be busy in the garage this year!

And then there's the wifes R53 mini cooper, this has sprung a oil leak somewhere and the clutch release bearing is making a squeak when you release it, so another gearbox out as well, down side to the Mini is half the front of the car has to come off first!

Busy busy busy, just as well I enjoy it :)

No, then it's the new engine build (3.5ltr with new EFI management)

Like you said, I don't think I will never be finished, just as well I enjoy it!

Btw- this is EFI for 250 hp....

Btw- this is EFI for 250 hp....

Hey Don,

250 flywheel Hp I assume ?

What are the specs for this engine? 240-250hp is where I'm aiming to be as well, but not quite sure if I will quite get 250 as I am planing on using the standard exhaust manifolds, as headers for our RH drive cars are a real PITA, steering box etc

I have a 3.3 m30 that came with a set of group A (European race class from the 1980's) mahle forged pistons, these will take it out to 3.43 ltr, this is the spec they raced in I believe, really aiming to get the compression up as high as possible on these, 11.1 or 12.1 if possible, to try and get the best bang possible of the 98 Ron pump gas we get here.
I have a fast road cam from Cat cams (similar spec to the srhick282) and plan on using a NZ made EFI management system "Link storm extreme" http://www.linkecu.com/products/engine-management-ecus/g4plus-xtreme with fully mapped ign and fuel maps, crank trigger ign, separate coils etc etc.
Not sure which intake to use yet, the D jet or the L jet, I understand the L jet breaths better, but the D jet looks nicer (silly reason to keep it, but you know how some of us roll!!!)

As for you offer for the cooling tube, thanks, but too much hassle 1/2 way across the world, I will just get something fabricated up here in NZ.

Cheers

If you have to stay stock on the exhaust manifolds, the 808 version is supposed to be the biggest and best.

Well team got around to sorting this tube out.
Its the steel tube that runs down the side of the block under the inlet manifold for those that didn't know what we've been talking about.
The E9 tube is NLA and the E23 tube also seems to be the same now.

With that said I set about making my own, photos links below

Pretty rusty, and as it turns out, not an original part, was probably home made here in NZ at some stage back in the 80's

small tube to cold start just snapped of in my hand when i tried to take the rubber hose of it

Thought I would make the new one in Stainless, heres the bits I started with

All cut and ready to get welded

Finished item after getting welded up today

Pretty happy with end result, and it cost me about the same as NLA replacement part (approx $105 USD + shipping)

Now of corse that I have fixed this, I have sprung a leak on the fuel rail :( Very rotten rubber fuel lines going to regulator

The joys of classic cars !!!

Will be there, But not with E9, still don't trust it to go that far!

And will be going to Caffeine and Classics in Auckland on Sunday.

I replied to your PM
