Hi guys,

I am having a pretty hard time locating a Getrag 265 for my 2800CS. Has anyone ever used the Getrag 260? I understand the transmission is the later style with no speedometer drive. But North Hollywood Speedometer and Clock can convert the analog drive to a digital pickup (GPS sensor). They replace the roller wheels for the odometer and trip meter with a small digital screen (kills the look of the dash in my opinion).

The 260's are going for about 300-400 for a well known gearbox, while the Getrag 265's are about 600-1000 if you can find them.

NHS quoted me $500 for the speedo conversion.

Another solution

You can buy a little electronic box which coverts electrical speedo pulse signals from the newer trans into a mechanical rotating output ... Which will drive your mechanical speedo. IIRC they sell for $200-$300, and are intended to address exactly your situation. Calibration to suit pretty much any pulse to rotation ratio.

The Getrag 260 is also a weaker transmission. You can probably find some early ones from E28s (1983-88, excluding 1985) that will have a mechanical speedo hole plugged up. If you remove that blocker and get ahold of a mechanical speedo drive (from a 4 speed unit, for example) you can swap it in.

Bfeng, do you have any additional info on these gadgets?

So the e28 535i transmission can be modded to accept a speedometer drive? Is the transmission with integrated bell housing?

FYI ,the electric vehicle speed sensor in that generation of BMW's is in the diff , not the trans .

I like the Cablex.

Since the speedometer drive is based off the tranny, is the gear set calibrated to the diff ratio?

If so, changing the diff ratio will affect the speedometer reading correct?

Where are you located?
I sell mine opened, inspected, sealed for 750

Send me a pm - I'm here working at Coupeking this week.

This is true. The stock unit has a speedo set for a given diff ratio. You have to change some of the internal gears to change the speedo correctly.
