M30 engine number and code

Hi

I came across this engine the other day and not sure if it from an E9 or later car. I tried RealOEM but they can't find the engine number, so if anyone can help it will be much appreciated.

Engine Number +4586258+ and the code looks like SB 3.0. There is a 3.0 - 3.3 cast into the side of the block as well.

Per the information on this forum's list http://www.e9-driven.com/E9_Vins.asp your engine number does not appear to be from an E9. Seems outside of the E3 production list too. http://www.bmw-e3-club.de/e3bmw/fahrgestellnummer.html Same with North American E12's http://www.firstfives.org/vin.html

Different rules/numbers may apply to S.African numbers. Haven't done any research on vins for Euro E12, E23, E24 or E28.
