Hi all!

Apologies in advance for this long-winded post.

Bought a length of the woven "felt" channel into which the forward edge of the front windows slide. BMW sent me a 44" length, which I assume is sufficient for both front windows. But from the top of the door to the top of the frame it is only 17" (x 2 = 34"). Knowing BMW, they did not send me an extra 10" out of the goodness of their hearts.

So my questions are:

1. Is the felt channel supposed to extend 5" into the door (or is it possible that the entire 44" length is just for one side)?

2. Do I need to remove the door panel to install the channel. If not, how do I insure that the window edge gets seated into the channel when the window is in the down position (i.e. during installation)?

3. Is the channel held in the window frame by anything other than friction? Can't see any evidence of glue, screws, etc.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

I just did this on my NK, no need to remove the old channel inside the door. I pulled it out from the top but stopped at the window sill, then gently pulled it enough to cut it off right at sill level, I put new channel only where visible. It is harder on a sedan because of the window frame but you can pull the entire channel out from the top but it is harder to slide it back down into the door next to the vent window. You also have channel on the trailing edge which probably requires removing door panel. It has to go low enough to prevent rattling when window is lowered.

yes, you must extend it , please check the original length in my thread post number 25

absolutely, you can try many odd things, but the only safe way. to do so is to remove the panel and the glass just can pull it back by removing the rear channel

3. Is the channel held in the window frame by anything other than friction? Can't see any evidence of glue, screws, etc.

yes, there are 4 or 5 clamps, look at my thread

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
