I now have some of the perforated headliner material purchased from Don Jacobs BMW 859-260-2621. I have a friend there in the parts department: Greg Howell, who understands old cars and the parts information from BMW Classics which is difficult at best to decipher. The part number is: 51-92-1-802-983 $39.03. 41 X 56 inches. It is a nice white not "brilliant" but not egg shell in my opinion. It does come folded though but I have been told that will not be an issue (?).

In the emails and posts I have an idea that the factory sunroof cars got the non perforated material as the sunroof was done elsewhere for BMW(do I remember that correctly?) so the factory material was taken off for installation of the sunroof. I have heard that the area where the sunvisors are was perforated and the other part with the sunroof was smooth. GAHH shows all smooth but I did call them to let them know of this material from BMW Classics. I was told that this info would be sent on to the makers of the headliner kits so it would be more authentic.

I think sunroof coupes rolled off the line at Karmann, it would be too expensive to do otherwise. The A/C components in our coupes came in a box in the trunk but all of the holes in firewall and rad wall were already there.

I received my order of the current headliner from BMW yesterday as well and the perforation actually are quite good and appear to be in the same pattern and spacing as the original. The color is not a bad match as well, but of course there is no cross-hatching present in the material itself, as with the original material. For those people who don't look too closley at their headliner, it's probably not a bad solution, especially since there are few other options... For Coupelady. Sunroof and non sunroof Coupes used exactly the same headliner material, including the header panel and sun visors.

dear coulelady, i would like to comment on this but i do not mean to be rude, so please consider as a friendly proposal to avoid an "inflation of entries"

i have noticed that everytime you like to tell us something about your duties with that headliner you open a new thread,..on the same topic !

i would like to thank you for sharing your findings with us, but i find confusing to follow the topic in,... now they are, three different threads !

would you kindly consider to keep it in one only thread that will evolve, and when finished will contain all the interesting information ?

i would love to see it that way thank you in advance

How many units of that part number do you need to complete the headliner? Is anyone thinking about putting together a sewn kit?

Yes you can call the Don Jacobs number and ask for Greg in the parts department. Use my name if you like: Amy Lester

I have to admit, I am real old school and don't know how this board works very well. I thought by posting a new thread it would get read and responded to more so than going to the old.

My thoughts are to share what I have learned, I feel it is not 100% the last word and welcome others input! After all the coupe is a wonderful car, so are the other owners!

Thanks guys

PS in looking at the material I have here I would think that 2 units should do the headliner, that fiber covered area where the sun visors are and the seatbelt holders. 3 would be safe (for errors) Then there is the sun visors. I would love to find someone who does the heat seal like they are now. Anyone come across a trim shop that can do this type of work?

Thanks guys

amy, noone is saying that you are unhelpful

to get read ? that is not the problem, when you respond to an old thread,( relatively old, because both others were recent anyway), you get your response in the first position of the unread threads, so you somehow refresh the thread, and everyone is able to see the history and build on that and respond to you

if you open three threads is bad for the thread itself as is diffcult to track what happened before, and somehow people will not be able to have the whole story, and bad for the people that would search for this topic later as it will be splitted on three

yes, i can understand that you are old school, ( i am not native english, and i try hard to explain myself ), but this will be helpfull for all of us, and it is not rocket science, so a few tips,

1- as your thread would have moved backwards and you would be unable to find it, first click on your nickname that lays beside the welcome, at the right top of the screen

2- then you will see your profile, and some badges, one of them entilted Statistics, if you click on it you will see, FIND ALL THE THREADS BY COUPELADY

3- if you click on that you will see your last thread in the first position, open it and continue the saga !
