These are 16" non staggered....
Need refinishing.
No idea if I want to sell. Sending them to memory fab for complete redo.
Glad I spotted them and saved from the crusher.

memory fab?

I've never heard of memory fab before. Is that a good place in the Bay Area to get wheels redone? I've got a set of 16" Alpina wheels that I'll need to get refinished some day and was wondering where to go. I'm over in Santa Cruz, so Union City isn't very far away. Thanks,
John

Don, that is the steal of the month!

I went to grad school at Berkeley 30-ish years ago. I'd just bought my first BMW. Hardy and Beck was THE place to go ... always full of the coolest modified BMW's. And these WEDS were THE wheel to have. Got to meet Dinan and a couple of other crazy BMW tuners down in South Bay. Remember Franz Fechener's totally cool 2000CS (too bad it got wrecked).

Contrats on the old school wheels. Now you need to find an old H&B modified BMW E28.

Ah Bezerkley...... It hasn't changed.

I had MemoryFab do 5 sets of Alpinas in the last few months.
Beautiful work. That's what is stacked behind the Weds.

2nd week I was there we had a party at our house. One of our internationally well known professors offered to show up with a bag of illegal smokable material so he could hit on one of our housemate. Castro district halloween parade, Bay to Breakers run, trips out to Sears Point to see BMW M1's race (what do they call Sears Point these days?). Getting pulled over on the way to to skiing at Tahoe doing +90mph in an E3. Them were surely some crazy times.

if they are 3 piece I am very interested . if 3 piece they would work well on my race car project
so if your interested in selling them please email me
[email protected]

thanks

i thought the weds wheels looked like 3 piece but weren't. i could be wrong, my 2002 had similar wheels ... they looked multi-piece ... but noooope.

I think even if they are 2 piece they would still work for what I want them for . If the centers are the piece that comes out you can get different barrels to make what you want .

so I am still very interested

Weds start life as 3 piece wheels and when they are assembled the inner and outer barrels are welded together. You can indeed just pull the center out.

I imagine you could then build them very wide with different inners and outers, but you might need to weld the barrels together?

I'd be concerned about building them wide though-the Weds hardware is small and the spokes of the centers are thin. Shanon runs 15x7 Weds with Hoosiers but I don't know of any that have been built out wide and used sticky tires.

IIRC, H&B sold them in 7" and 8" widths depending on what car they were for. I probably still have their old catalog buried in my barn somewhere. Either way, good for an E9. I think these are rarer than the old standby BBS RS, and if refinished I'd say they are worth a little more for someone who wants to stand out at any gathering of old bimmers.

The Weds are 2 piece wheels, but in actuality, they are really 3 piece rims. The inner barrel and the outer lip were welded together at the factory to form a single barrel. I've a set of these in staggered 16s.

Note the welds on each wheel, which btw are beautiful "overlapping dime" welds. Picked these up a few years ago, will have the centers painted to the appropriate silver.

This is to note that I just posted my thoughts on these professors and self censored myself before actually posting the message.

The posterboy of civility I am. So proud of my silence this time.

@Bert - or anyone else who can answer....
Do you know where to get the correct hardware to rebuild these wheels? I have the same staggered set that I want to refurbish. I can't find the correct bolts, most cap heads have too large a diameter. Thanks.

Don, believe those are Hardy&Beck 3 piece rims. The H&B and Weds look almost identical, but upon closer inspection reveals that the H&B rims have "raised and ribbed" spokes. Also, the H&B rim centers are slightly convexed whereas the Weds wheels have more of a concaved appearance to them.

I see what you mean...
