I have a working and non-working cig. lighter. How does the knob come off?
Is it screwed on? I tried unscrewing, pulling and can't get it off. Anyone know?
Hi!
I guess this is about details, but what's the purpose to perform a post-mortem on a
cig. lighter?
Thing is I've done this for every other piece of the car, but not the cig. lighter.
(so maybe skip the reason for purpose)
the Heating element part can be unscrewed, but most of them are so rusted which makes it impossible to unscrew. I think I may even have a new 'heating element bit' sitting around somewhere. But if you meant the black knob part, that part seems fixed. But its should only be the heating element part that matters really, function wise.

The reason I wanted to take off the lighter knob is because the lighter is original to my 1972, was not working and has the decal as you can see. The working lighter is blank. I thought it would be simple to exchange the knobs.
As it turns out I found it impossible to take off the knob on either lighter. However I was able to take off the heating element but was difficult. In the process I ruined the element but since it wasn't working it's not an issue. I don't want to risk it with the working lighter. I will now simply buy a lighter at an auto parts store and see if I can take off the element and screw onto the '72 lighter.
Its surprising that of all the knobs in the E9, this is the only one that cannot be unscrewed or pulled out. Strange
No. But does it matter? I also don't drive it in the rain or if I know it will rain but still want the wipers to work. I also never use the radio and never use the tools in the tool box. I also wear a watch, should it matter if the car clock works? I'm Swiss, things should work the way they were intended to.
Since I'm the only one who smokes cigarettes in their coupe, maybe we can get a decal with a joint made up on it for those who reserve their coupe smoking for those "special" occasions.
Just as a side note when I bought my Shelby and was about to drive away I asked the salesman for a lighter as it came with just a cap that said 12V. He ran inside and came out and tossed me a Bic and said "here's your lighter". Nothing worse than a car salesman who thinks he has a sense of humor!

When I push in my lighter it ignites a massive vaporizer in the glove box and hot boxes the car through the heater vents. When I let it out the beer holder, er I mean the driver side glove box opens with a cold beer and a Cuban cigar.
Then I recline the seats and watch a movie on the lcd sunroof panel while the auto pilot takes over. So there!
