EDIT: TITLE SAYS LICENSE PLATE FRAMES....SORRY, I MEANT LICENSE PLATES....I'M TIRED, BEEN A LONG DAY!!!!! I know this could be a whole discussion of Patina vs. Refurbished and that is fine if not discussed here before. However in this particular case, I am looking to refurbish. I used to do this with new motorcycle plates and turn them into black plates, never had a problem. i had two contacts for his in the bay area, they are not doing this anymore, so I need a new contact.....Those were new plates though, I just painted new plates black and yellow or blue and yellow and never had a problem. This plate however has been through the ringer. It is the front plate, the rear plate is in good shape but I want both refurbished. Again, I love "Patina" and all that like the rest of you, but in this case I want to bang this out and have it repainted like new. Anyone know anyone that specializes in plates? Let me know, PM me if you feel better about it. I want to use this same plates but just have it refurbished back to 70's new. Thanks! For anyone that thinks the attached pic should be framed and hung in the garage, go for it, I think I am going to do the same...LOL.

I have used is Darryls for license plate restoration. See: http://www.darrylsplates.com/

It's been years since I last sent a pair of plates to Darryls - at that time their backlog was several months, but the quality was worth the wait.

I assume you are keeping your blue plates blue. Turning blue or white plates into black plates has always struck me as tacky. Anyone who knows the DMV's number/letter scheme can spot bogus black plates.

Why would anyone have an issue with straightening and re-painting license plates? It's no different than straightening and re-painting your bodywork.

Somebody that is or was at Folsom State Prison I guess. They have been making them since 1930s.

Arde yeah I was thinking same thing.....Jay, I just want them refurbished proper 70's Blue Plate. I used to take new plates and turn them black and yellow period correct for my 60's motorcycles, I guess that wasn't that clear....See attached pic. That is a new DMV plate. Nobody that ever saw my bikes thought the plates were cheesy....they asked me where they could get their plates painted like mine...LOL. But I hear you... My guy(s) are no longer doing that...one is selling insurance to weed dealers in Mendocino I guess and the other has some other crazy day job and he used to paint Roy Brizio hot rods. WTF is going on with this country? What happened to all the cool rebel artist metal/painters man? OK, sorry, discussion for another day!

Google License Plate Restoration, lots of options and they can make your plate look brand new.

Hey Chris, yeah that's too easy... I was hoping one of you had some contacts. I generally prefer going to people that other people such as yourselves recommend. It's usually a good ice breaker too and they know they probably will get repeat business if they do a good job. Generally speaking of course. And a lot of times I end up learning things I never would have really thought have before, even the simplest of questions sometimes.

Highly recommend Restore-a-Tag (not cheap!)
