Black box may have been part of ignition system, too small for original speed relays. Silver can is fan for A/C condenser.

Mmmm? The car doesn't have air con, and never has as far as I'm aware, maybe the just put them in anyway?

What's a "speed relay" Chris?

The car was a carbed, auto when it was new.

That's definitely the A/C fan relay, wire comes from the center console and continues to fused power from battery in an A/C coupe.

The speed relays controlled two or three vacuum dashpots on the firewall for US cars with emission controls.

Speed relays, located below the cold air duct in the front nose clip. For emissions. I removed the wiring.

Chris is correct.. it is a fan control relay installed at dealer level.. Look at your thermostat housing & you will find a wire piggy backed to the the temp sender.. Do you have a aux fan in the nose?

There was an extra electric fan, i took out, I thought that because it used to be an auto it had this? It never ran so i replaced it with a new after market electric fan, probably what the silver can relay is.

The black box thing is make by VDO, not Bosch.

This car is ex UK so had no smog gear on it, and has never had air con. ( that I know of)
I see in the wiring diagram there is a relay for the automatic chokes, maybe this is what the black box is?

I have the extra electric fan also without AC. I think it is useful as it came on once when the car was seating for long but not moving on a hot day.
