I have a four speed 1971 2800cs in Nacht Blau. It is virtually if not totally rust-free having lived in Texas until I purchased it four years ago. It has a 3.5 liter engine from an '88 535. I have the original engine. Restored dark blue leather interior. Wood is perfect. Totally restored mechanically and cosmetically. I have a few loose leaf notebooks documenting the entire restoration. The car has been properly stored indoors during its time in Chicago. I probably put on a few hundred miles per year. Ben Thongsai who many of you probably know has serviced it. Let's assume the car is as nice as I am representing it to be. Can you provide a range of value as someone offered to purchase it? I am uncertain I want to sell. I am not a troll poster. I have posted on the forum and corresponded with many of you over the years. I just don't post much and am out of the loop. I know a famous restoration shop north of Chicago asks close to if not more than six figures for his full restorations but his prices may not necessarily be the benchmark for what our beautiful E9 cars are trading for.

The SWAGs below sound right. Unfortunately, even said shop's "werk"manship and reputation likely won't translate to market value, as much as I selfishly wish it might...

BTW, if you and your coupe are out and about next Sunday, check out the Fuelfed C&C event in Barrington on 7/12. Or any other ones the last Sundays of the month in Winnetka. A number of (probably most of) the Chicago coupe contingent typically materialize. We can talk more...
 
A Blank, did you purchase your coupe from a Chicago attorney, Ted McNabola? I remember he was selling his several years back.
 
Can you post a few more photos? Original carpet, perfect trunk, clean engine bay, 5 speed? It could be $50/60K if as good as you assume.
 
Hi, reviving this thread. I still have this beauty and without gauging the market sense prices for our beloved coupes are on the rise. Can someone give me price parameters in the current market? Not sure if I'm a seller yet but if the right offer came along, who knows? Thanks.
 
i'm going to jump out on a limb, having not seen the car ... but knowing Terry Sayther from back in my days in Texas ... and having met and talked with Ben ... these are members of classic BMW mechanical royalty. Ben is a wizard. one question - does it have a 5 speed or a 4 speed tranny - that is a mild price differential.

so for comparables in the market, i point you to the Professor, a very comparable polaris 2800cs that is for sale currently for 58k ... and i think it is under priced for the condition of the car and who has worked on it. I think that 55k is a starting point for a fabulous coupe (2800cs or 3.0cs). you have solved the major difference between a 2800cs and the 3.0cs - the brakes. the other minor difference are the seatbelts and 200 cc of the engine. i know several people that love the way the 2.8 liter winds us that some say is lost in the 3.0, except the 3.0csi. that is immaterial because you already have a b35 3.5L, albeit with webers. which will look more original. the additional parts that were taken off are a bonus and can go with the coupe ... or sold individually as significant value (depending on condition). the engine should go with the car for originality purposes.

that being said, if the coupe is as i think it might be, i would put a range of 60k to 65k (+/- 5k) you can bolster that by posting a link to a full range of pictures, having a thorough PPI analysis from an independent mechanic such as Ben with a great track record ... and giving insight into its documented history.

that's my 2 cents. good luck + keep us posted
